Brunswick 9' Monarch Antique Pool Table
The Monarch pro size billiard table by J. Brunwick and Balke was the most famous and magnificent of the Brunswick line. This table, built in 1890, has some interesting history. This table was located in the basement bar of the Helvetia hotel in old south Portland. It survived the Portland flood of 1894 with some minor damage to the Brazillian Rosewood rail tops and the cast iron legs which are in the shape of 4 lions. In 1918 Emil Krattiger became the proprietor of the Helvatia hotel and this famous pool table continued to be a feature of the basement bar. This table has been passed down through 3 generations of the Krattiger family and is currently owned by Eric Krattiger, the great grandson of Emil Krattiger.
